Youth & Government

"Democracy must be learned by each generation" and is what Youth & Government is about. Youth & Government is a program in the United States that allows high school students to serve in model governments at a local, state, national, or international levels. It has been around since 1936 and has been growing ever since. Youth & Government gives students the opportunity to be in the shoes of Senators, or be a part of the House of Representatives. Students even have the opportunity to run for the Head of the House and the Head of the Senate, they can also run for Governor and other appointed positions.

We would like to thank the Ohio YMCA for sponsoring FHS in the Youth & Government program.

Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in a program called Youth in Government, where I wrote a bill and presented it at the Ohio State House.

Chris Pennington is FHS’s Office Coordinator. Chris answers all FHS phone questions and keeps the front desk running smoothly. During his years at FHS he was a student office worker for 3 years proving his interest and ability to work with the school staff, students, and parents. Chris plays electric bass, continues his three years of experience playing with the FHS steel pan band, and cheers on the Miami Dolphins. Chris has participated in Youth in Government for 6 years, he has spent 3 years as a delegate and will be teaching Youth in Government this year for the 3rd year in a row.
